In September 2006, Bwin co-chief executives Norbert Teufelberger and Manfred Bodner were arrested at a press conference in La Turbie, France, due to alleged violations of French gambling laws. The two executives were later released after a court hearing in Nice, France. In October 2006, Bwin stopped accepting bets from United States players, due to the signing of the Safe Port Act.

PokerRoom.com
PokerRoom.com was one of the very first online poker rooms founded in 1999 and found great success during its ten years of operation. After ten years in the online poker industry, PokerRoom.com was shut down in April 2009. Players were notified of the closing of the website and encouraged to play at Bwin.com. The PokerRoom players were given the option to transfer their cash to Bwin or cash out their funds. Players who moved to the Bwin website were offered special incentives.
