Blackburn Rovers is the professional football club from the town Blackburn, Lancashire. It was founded in 1875, and in 1888 it became the founder of the Football League.

History

The club was set up on November, 5 in 1875 by the school graduates. In 1912 the team became the champion of England. The club managed to develop its success and in 1914 the team again won the same title. In 1928 the club showed brilliant playing  in 1928 in the finals of the Cup of England. The club continued playing rather well up to 1936, and then the black bar started.

In the 70s the team played in the Third division until the local multimillionaire Jack Walker contributed a lot of money to the club. Thanks to the financial support the team and good work of the team’s coach Kenny Dalglish, Blackburn Rovers got to the First division and became one of the founders of the English Premier League in 1992. In 1994 the team finished the season on the second place, giving way to Manchester United, but in 1995 they became the champions.

Very soon the team had hard times again and in 1999 they left the Premier League.

In 2002 Blackburn became the champion of the League Cup. After the season 2002/03 the team provided the right to participate in the UEFA Cup. There the club got the sixth position in the final rank. But after some footballers were injured, the club left the competitions and showed poor results at home, finishing the season on the 15th place. The leading coach was replaced. Under the ruling of the Welsh specialist the team was very successful and finished the season of 2005-2006 on the sixth place. This gave the right to take part in the UEFA Cup tournament.  The League Cup has been the only trophy which Blackburn won in the 21st century. In spring 2008 Paul Ince headed the team, but under his run the team was not successful having only 13 points in 17 matches. At the end of 2008 the coach was sacked, and a three year old contract was signed with the coach Sam Allardyce.
