Stoke City is the professional English Football Club, which is situated in the town Stoke-on-Trent in the county Staffordshire. It takes part in the Premier League and it is considered to be the second oldest professional club in England after Notts County.
The club nickname “The Potters” appeared because of the development of pottery industry in the town. The domestic uniform is a white t-shirt with red vertical stripes and white shorts.
The home stadium “Britannia” has about 29 000 seats. It was opened in 1997, but before that the club played at the stadium “Victoria Ground”
The current president is Peter Coates, who has been running the club since May, 2006.
History

The club was founded under the name the Stoke Ramblers in 1863, but in 1878 it got the present name. And it got the status of the professional football club in 1885. The Football League of England was established in 1888 and Stoke City was one of the teams to found the League. The most famous player of the team is Sir Stanley Mathews who played for Stoke City about 30 years from 1932 to 1965.
In 1952 the club left the First division of the Football League. In 1960 Tony Waddington started to run the team and in two years he led the team to the highest division. In 1972 the club won the Football League Cup. It was the first serious trophy in the history of the team. On May, 4th 2008 the club entered the Premier League for the first time since 19985.
